Jail canteen for general public in Ernakulam

Ernakulam District Jail has introduced a number of projects beneficial to the inmates as well as the public in general. It has started a canteen for general public. Big crowd of customers visit the food court outside the jail seeking the coveted dishes prepared by jail inmates. There are total 240 inmates in Ernakulam District Jail now, out of these 40 inmates are engaged in cooking activities. The objective is to make food available for the poor at low price. Besides, it also gives jail inmates a chance to earn for themselves. They are also given training in 50 courses to skill them and enable them to look after their family once they get release.
